Alternately, if you don’t want the added trouble and expense of cutting the lid and covering it with hardware cloth, you could just drill a bunch of holes on the top of the lid. I prefer to use the hardware cloth in order to maximize air flow and maintain the structural integrity of the lid, itself, but I understand that not everyone has access to a jigsaw. 😊
